Public records reporting shows the Microsoft linked DataOne facility in Vineland ran 62 unpermitted tractor trailer sized gas generators for roughly 46,000 total hours between October 2025 and June 2026, with a Rutgers estimate of about 140 tons of nitrogen oxide emissions in 2025 that would place the site among the state's top five NOx sources. The New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection issued a $1.07 million administrative order after a July 29 inspection.
Check it: The emissions estimate is modeled by an outside expert from permit data; the operator can contest the order and the final penalty may change.

Residents near the 2.4 million square foot Data One AI complex in Vineland, New Jersey told the Inquirer on October 1 that they are losing sleep from a persistent hum, which the Cumberland County Department of Health measured at above 50 decibels about a mile away at night. A homeowner noise complaint lawsuit was recently dismissed on procedural grounds. Data One and operator Nebius said the site is transitioning to quieter Bloom Energy fuel cells and that noise should drop after construction ends.
Check it: The 50 decibel figure is from the county health department rather than an independent agency, and the operator says sound levels are expected to drop once construction and temporary generation end.

Governor Mikie Sherrill and NJDEP announced a 1.07 million dollar penalty against Data One's Vineland facility after a July inspection found 62 natural gas generators operating without required Air Pollution Control Act permits. The department called it the largest enforcement action against a data center in state history; the operator said it plans to seek permits and transition to fuel cells. Advocates cited the fine as evidence of air pollution risks near residential areas.
Check it: Whether the fine is final or subject to appeal, and whether the generators continue operating pending permits.

The Raritan Township Committee unanimously amended the Land Development Code to prohibit data centers throughout the municipality, while allowing small accessory server rooms up to 2,000 square feet or 10 percent of a building. The mayor said the ban gives the township time to consider whether data centers fit its character. It is a permanent ordinance, not a moratorium.
